Emma Calabrese

Dr. Emma Calabrese graduated in Medicine and Surgery from Sapienza University of Rome, subsequently completing a residency in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at the same university.
She completed a PhD in Experimental Pathophysiology with a focus on Mucosal Inflammation at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. She also furthered her training with a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Chicago.
She is currently an Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Dr. Calabrese focuses on inflammatory bowel diseases, with significant experience in abdominal and intestinal ultrasound.
She specializes in the advanced diagnostic monitoring of inflammatory bowel diseases, intestinal ultrasound, and the clinical management of patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. She has coordinated national and European research groups on ultrasound techniques in inflammatory bowel diseases.
She is a member of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization and the Italian Society of Gastroenterology, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Group of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. She serves as a reviewer for prestigious international scientific journals in the field of gastroenterology.
